Well we bought a Nintendo Wii a few months back and we really enjoy it. I found out that you can surf the internet using the Wii, not the best system using the controller, but it does the trick. I think it cost around 1000 Wii points which is around $10.00, used to be free at one time.
I tried using Orb to stream and I didn’t have any luck, I came across TVersity while searching how to use Orb. The instructions for TVersity weren’t easy either, well for me anyway. I did another Google search and I came across how to get the Wii to find the files to be streamed.
When I first installed the program, using Vista Home Premium, I had to stop the UAC function. To do that go into control panel and then user accounts and then disable. You will then need to restart the computer. For me that UAC was a pain in the ass, I am the only one using this computer so I am aware what is being installed.
Ok, once the program is installed you might get an error not connected to the server. Up in the left hand corner you will see what looks like an O, click on that and then start sharing. Have the program scan your computer for audio and video and then you are ready to get the Wii to start syncing with your computer. This is also supposed to work with PS3 and XBox 360, not sure if the same set up I am about to discuss will work.
You have to know your IP address of the computer that you are going to use, and also you computer needs to be fast enough, not much fun listening to music or watching a movie with it lagging. I am going to assume you don’t know your IP address or how to find it. Both in XP go to run type in cmd and then ipconfig, with Vista go to the search in start and type in cmd and then ipconfig. Write down your IP address, you will need this to log on to the server using the Wii.
Start up your Wii, go to the internet channel and enter the ip address you wrote down. For example mine is 192.168.15.XXX (didn’t want to include it all) now you will need to put in a few more numbers so it will now look like this 192.168.15.xxx:41952/flashlib
Now all your music and videos and even podcasts will be available to watch and listen to.
I hope this helped you out and you use the Wii for me then just playing games.
After posting I did have some out of memory errors with the Wii, not sure what that was all about.
I did find some information on how to use TVersity with the Iphone and Touch:
For owners of the Apple iPhone or iPod Touch
- Open the Safari browser on the iPhone and point it to
http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:41952/iphone, wherexxx.xxx.xxx.xxxis the IP address of the machine running TVersity. - It is recommended to do it initially with the iPhone connected to your home wireless network. You can find out the IP address of any given Windows machine by going to Start -> Settings -> Network Connections -> Local Area Connections -> Support tab.
- You should now see your media library and be able to navigate it and play everything on it. Once an item has been selected for playback please wait till the little Quicktime play icon appears, then tap on it and the playback will start.
- The only exception is live video streams, which cannot be played due to a current iPhone limitation (live audio streams such as Internet radio stations do work).
- Please also note that videos that require conversion will start playback only after the entire conversion is complete, so please wait patiently – this is a result of the same limitation that prevents playback of live video streams. Once the conversion is done, you can play the video and FF/Rew freely. Repeat playbacks of the same video do not require another conversions so playback can be started immediately.
- Congratulations! You have successfully installed the server and used it to play content on your iPhone.

Ironically I had similar memory errors on my Wii. More than likely its the same problem I had where the Wii is trying to read every single file in the directory which of course is way too taxing on a system with less than a gig of RAM. To solve this I created mulitple subfolders in my video folders to split TV Shows and Movies by genres, and even drilled the TV Shows down another level by show name and may later on do it by season if the RAM issue appears again. Hopefully this helps you out.

I’m really interested in setting up Tversity for use with my Wii. Currently I am using WMP sharing for my 360 and my Wii just sits around collecting dust. If I can use it on another TV with Tversity I will be very happy. We can finally watch different videos stored on my PC on different TVs!
